The Ft. Pierce Inlet Management Study recommended construction of a 200 foot spur jetty on the south jetty to reduce the backflow of sediment into the inlet. In 1997, the County constructed the spur jetty; in subsequent years the County added and maintained a pedestrian walkway on top of the spur jetty to support fishing and recreational use.
Coastal Tech:
- provided customary conceptual, preliminary, and final design services for the initial spur jetty construction and subsequent walkway, and post-storm repairs;
- obtained FDEP and USACE permits;
- spot-checked construction for compliance with plans, specifications, and permits.
Initial Construction Cost: $1.6M
Completion: 1996 – 2019
